Anyhow, here I goes again. It’s okay if you wish to skip the next paragraph which is some business bullshit! 

Profitability and sustainability is always the bottom-line in all business. It is no different for the company I work in. Having been around in Singapore for a number of years, it has matured into a Centre of Competence and could take the lead in setting up satelite factories around the world. In addition to lower production cost, the satelite factories has the advantage to be near to its targeted market. As for my involvement, I have been quite priviliged to have supported in many of these start-up activities.

Ok…ok..ok..!!! Enough of those boring business stuff. Let me just start with my trip to Mexico! Ole!

I had been to Mexico thrice(1997-99). Just before my first trip, there were news about the GM(General Manager) of the factory I was going. 

He had just driven home with his wife and children in the car. As he was getting out of the car, a man pointing a gun ordered him to hand over the car keys. Fearing for the safety of his family who were still in the car, the GM struggled violently with the gunman. The struggle ended abruptly, with the GM being shot dead and the gunman fleeing the scene!

That incident was a good reminder that Mexico is not just the Sun, the Sand and the Sea, but a land filled also with crime, risk and danger!

Anyhow, onwards to Mexico!

I was amazed how I could survived the ridiculously long flight from Singapore to Tokyo, to Los Angeles, to Huston and finally arriving at Mexico City with just a sore and flattened bum!!!

Upon arrival, came the first cultural shock! Warm greetings with the Mexicans were firm handshakes followed by a bear hug and a few pats on the back for the guys and gentle hug with kisses planted to the cheeks for the gals! It took a few more such greetings for me to get used to it. Well, as the saying goes, ‘in Rome, do what the Roman does!’.

I have many many stories to share about my experience in Mexico, but as I mentioned, I really have to re-think how I want to put it in words or narrate it with photos.

But before I stop here, I must comment that Mexico though is a truly crowded and polluted place, it has many places of interest and of course also many warm & very friendly people.

Well, now that I have gotten started, I hope to sustain it as long as possible. I cannot imagine how my children will react if they would find out that my new interest in blogging, had lasted as long as my visit to the toilet every morning! 

Anyhow, here I am. Mr Calma – a proud Son of Singapore, happily married with three lovely children and working as an engineer in a multinational company.

I am very new to the blogging world and really knows a whole lot of nothing about it. From the various books and websites that I had checked out, I think it is really cool that you can post your thoughts, share information and interact with people of similar interest in the world!

As I build my blog, I welcome everyone to join me in my blogging journey. All comments, suggestions, advises, whether good or bad will be accepted with a right frame of mind.

As with all blogs, the contents are what matters. I intent to start by sharing with everyone some information about my travel experiences. Some of the countries I travelled to includes Mexico, USA, Brazil, Hungary, Austria, Holland, China, Hong Kong, Taiwan,  Indonesia and Malaysia. As for Singapore – my homeland, I shall also post some useful information for anyone who may need it. It will be my greatest pleasure to assist anyone who might have questions about Singapore.
